The hardest thing

6. What is the hardest thing you have ever experienced?

I'm not sure I want to think about this question... I realize the hard stuff is what makes us who we are and God's faithfulness through those times develops our relationship with him but let's be honest... the hard times suck. who wants to relive them, let alone figure out which was the hardest??

Moving every couple of years when I was a kid was hard, staying in one place after all those moves was hard too. Being in a bad relationship was hard, guess what, getting out of it and over it was hard too. Having a seven week preemie was hard, as was the failure to thrive baby two years later, and the baby with RSV two years after that. Being the mother of three teen age girls is HARD too. Speaking at Bible Camp the first time was hard, it still is but I love it! Figuring out who I really am has been hard. Fighting anxiety and depression disorder is hard.

SO I guess the hardest thing I have ever experienced is just LIFE. the journey of exsisting is hard. Their are many joys and trials along the way and everyday brings challenges of it's own. God is faithful and life is life and it's hard but I wouldn't have it any other way

I feel like I have written a few blog posts in honour of friends who have passed and sadly I have another. This one is close to my heart and has been percolating for a few days now. It feels sacred somehow and I'm not entirely sure I want to share it just yet so if you read know that for all the missing details and possibly inaccurate ones this is my narrative on what has easily been one of the most abstract and yet important friendships my grown up life. I don't even remember how I stumbled across the Steven Curtis Chapman fan boards but I did. We were a grand group of strangers who became friends. There were so many of us. Grief has visited me once again. And for all the people I have lost in the last 4 years, this one hurts so differently, so deeply. I didn't know that grief could change my taste buds and make me so afraid to close my eyes. I didn't know you could wake up all ready in tears. This is different. This is the pain of loosing someone who isn't old, who isn't sick but who is your own age and who shares your everyday story, This is different some how. In many ways I am still in shock and survival mode. And so I will write because writing is sometimes the only way I can even begin to let go of the pain. I first met Rose when I was dating one of her cousins. I remember how bright and cheerful Rose was at every family gathering. I really wanted to get to know her but back then my world pretty much revolved around 'the boy.' Fast forward quite a few years... Home

The word Home brings so many images to mind, memories, smells, stories. I think it is that way for all of us. Everything we do is about home when you really think about it. We work so we can come home and enjoy our families. We travel but long for home. We raise our kids and send them off and wait for the holidays so they can come HOME. We write songs and stories and create art all about home. Home seems to be at the centre of everything. I think God created us that way for a reason... so we would long for home... for our place with Him. I know not every one believes in a literal heaven and hell and whatever I'm not here to debate that but what I know is that we all long for home all the time we are away from it. I have friends who are waiting so impatiently to bring their baby HOME from the hospital and I rejoice with them that he is finally healthy and strong and ready to take his place in the world.
